XP Slipstream CD
Making your own XP Slipstream CD. Part 2, the tutorial.
The screen shots were made using the first version...Using the updated version maybe a bit different.
Okay, you have all gathered up the requisite materials as described on page 1 of this tutorial, start out by unzipping AutoStreamer to an empty folder. Put your Microsoft XP installation CD in your CD drive. If the autoplay menu appears, close it. Now click on AutoStreamer.exe to begin the process. You will see this on your screen...

Illustration 1
Simple enough, make sure you have the "I want to use my original Windows CD" radio button checked as in illustration 1 above and click on the Next button.

Illustration 2
Now this is the second screen as shown in Illustration 2. AutoStreamer has already detected our Microsoft Windows XP install CD and it shows up in the "Windows CD drive" box above. Browse for the service pack as shown in the above illustration and again in illustration 3. Leave the temporary folder alone, it is fine just the way it is.

Illustration 3
Now in Illustration 3 above, we browse for the Windows SP2 file that we downloaded earlier. Press the Next button to continue.

Illustration 4
For the next part, we will need to know the Desired Label as shown in illustration 6. We can just use "WXPVOL_EN" for the English version or to find it yourself, open up My Computer and the volume label will appear as the name of the CD drive with the Windows XP installation disc in it. If you would like to copy and paste the volume label rather than type it in yourself, then right click on your CD drive and choose Properties, see illustration 5.

Illustration 5
When you right click on the XP CD in My Computer and choose Properties, this is what you will see. Simple enough, just copy the name shown above and click on the OK button to close this window.

Illustration 6
Here we get to paste the Desired label that we copied in illustration 5. Paste this into the Desired label box shown above in illustration 6. Now browse for a place to put your completed iso file, remember this will be 600Mb in size so make sure you have enough room for this file! See Illustration 7.

Illustration 7
This is what the browse box looks like. Find a place to put this very large (600Mb) file and give it a name. Any name is okay, just be sure to put iso extension on the end. Press the Save button to close this dialog box.

Illustration 8
Okay we are all done now, time to press the Finish button and let AutoStreamer create the iso file that we can use to burn our very own XP Slipstream CD with. Once you have finished doing this, place a blank CD in your CDRW drive and click on the XP_Pro_SP2_Slipstream.iso file that you just created and if you have Easy CD Creator 6 or Easy Media Creator 7 installed, the program will open and all you have to do is to press the Burn button to create the CD. If you are using a different kind of CD burning software, consult your documentation on how to burn an iso file into a complete CD. There is also a freeware ISO Recorder Power Toy for Windows XP only that you can use to burn the iso file back to a working XP slipstream install CD with.
That is it, you are finished. Now you can do all of your new XP installs with your XP Slipstream CD and can also repair your XP system when it is acting flaky by using the sfc command in Windows XP as described earlier in page 1 of this tutorial.
